Bookstores are simply magical places, aren’t they?
Here at Indigo, we just can’t get enough of them (we’re particularly partial to the self-dev section – no surprises there). Here in Sydney, we’re pretty lucky to have some incredible boutique bookshops where you can lose yourself, grab a cuppa and indulge in a life-changing book (or two). In honour of #loveyourbookshop day (Oct 3) we thought we’d share our favourites…
1. Better Read Than Dead – Newtown
Amidst the hustle and bustle of Newtown is this glorious little escape, with an amazing selection, friendly staff and warm, community vibes. They also hold regular events and launches!
2. Gleebooks – Glebe
A bustling and charming bookstore in the heart of Glebe with a cracking self-development section as well as a frequently-updated bestseller/new release display so you can always keep up with the good stuff that’s coming out!
3. Berkelouw Books – All over Syd
You’ll find these guys all over town, as well as their signature Book Barn down in Berrima (road trip, anyone?) A few of their shops double as cafes, and they have some pretty spectacular vintage second hand and first edition books too.
5. Oscar & Friends – Surry Hills & Double Bay
Shout out to our locals. This bookstore has a rocking selection, as well as delicious large coffee table books that you can absolutely melt into.
6. Gertrude and Alice – Bondi Beach
Old school charm, that also doubles as a cafe. Beaches and bookstores make a pretty damn good combo, we feel.
7. Kinokuniya – CBD
Big and BEAUTIFUL. Kinokuniya is a Sydney institution, and when we say you can get lost in here – we mean that literally. A massive selection of incredible reads, as well as gifts, journals, and tarot cards (if you’re feeling mystical)…
