Lorna Macaulay | Senior Psychologist | The Indigo Project

Hi, I'm Lorna.

  • A Creative
  • Gentle
  • Sensitive

I am passionate about helping my clients to improve their relationships; both their relationship with themselves and those that are important to them. I want you to know that I’m here to validate your experience – whatever it may be – in a way that is non-judgemental, respectful and understanding.

The reality is, you are unique. So I tailor my approach using a range of therapeutic skills including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion Focus Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy.

I use these therapeutic tools to help you build an understanding of how your experiences have affected your inner world and relationships and to support you in recognising and honouring the strengths you already possess.

As a queer-identifying person I am passionate about ensuring other members of this community, and other groups that may experience marginalisation and discrimination, have access to affirming care and support that recognises the systemic and societal challenges that exist. My work with clients recognises that we exist with systems that are not always supportive of us and who we are.

Lorna's Tip for Staying in the Now...

Our minds are skilled at drawing us towards rumination about the past or worry about the future. Our minds can pull us into reliving experiences, and the feelings that come with this, again and again.

When our mind does this we miss what is happening right now.

In the present. I like to practise bringing myself into the present moment when I am walking my dog. I consciously notice my dogs happy face, flowers, the sound of my feet on the pavement, street art & the sound of the trees so I can be there for the walk and get as much enjoyment out of it as my dog does.

Outside of therapy...

At the moment I am into learning how to stand on my head. I love yoga and have decided that arm balances and inversions need to be in my practice. It’s a little bit scary but so fun.

When I’m not working you will probably find me at a café in Marrickville enjoying brunch after walking my dog.
