ROLFING, BODYWORK & SOMATIC MOVEMENT
The practice of Rolfing is based on the understanding of the profound impact of gravity on human health and well-being. Through deliberate, accurate and targeted movement of fascia, our organ of form, change can occur and a sense of overall ease and well-being is achieved. Through the Rolfing touch, the elasticity and sliding capacity of fascia can be restored and the body structure realigned to function with greater ease. We practise bodywork with the understanding that points of pain, for example a stiff neck or a sore back, are merely a symptom of a much larger and more holistic issue and looks at ways to address problems within the way we support and move our bodies.
Stress not only takes a toll on our energy levels and emotions but also on our body, and our form and posture can become out of balance as a result of negative life experiences. Instead of just dealing with the symptom, Rolfing is aimed at long-term and lasting benefits by helping clients develop ways to move freer and more fluidly during every day tasks like breathing, walking, bending and lifting to reduce strain on our bodies. In addition, by working literally from the ground up, Rolfing aims to improve our balance and ensure our feet and legs are giving the rest of our body adequate support as so much pain in the neck, shoulders and back is often a consequence of inadequate support in the lower regions of our body.
In addition, bodywork aims to develop heightened body awareness and help us learn how to feel and experience our body, our rhythms and our movements. By becoming aware of how we breathe, stand, sit, walk and hold ourselves in our daily lives we are able to be more attuned to changes in our body, emotions and thoughts when stress occurs. Through verbal instructions, questioning and guided movement sessions, clients are able to correct unhealthy movement habits in order to release tension in their body and mind.
As a Somatic Movement Specialist and certified practitioner from the European Rolfing Association, Celeste believes that movement, body awareness, embodiment and integration is key to living a better and more meaningful life. A wide and avid reader, she prides herself on her ability and willingness to learn and incorporate the latest ideas, theories and approaches into her practice to better connect others with their bodies.
