We showcase local artists in each Creative Spotlight so you can get to know the local talent! Learn about their work, their insights, their favourite things. This week we introduce you to Nick Waterman: filmmaker, writer, director & editor.
What do you do?
I’m a filmmaker. Writer, director & editor.
What is your favourite indulgence?
Honestly, a glass of wine.
What is your most recent obsession?
I’m obsessed with the TV show ‘Broad City’ at the moment.
Describe your perfect weekend:
My perfect weekend would be spent at my family’s beach house on Stradbroke Island in Queensland.
What are your biggest challenges as a creative?
I think its the challenges you face as a creative that often force you to dig a little deeper into the creative process. If the creative process was too easy then it wouldn’t be nearly as rewarding.
What role does Mindfulness play in your creativity and/or life?
Overtime and with consistent practice, I think meditation has helped me to nurture a stronger sense of self, which in turn has bolstered my internal creativity. I started meditating four years ago in London and can’t imagine my life without it now. It helps to keep me feeling anchored and connected to my self… and when I feel connected to who I am then I’m able to think more clearly and experience life with greater awareness. I’m forever grateful to my friend who encouraged me to start mediating!
